BRIEF PROFILE OF ENGR. PROF. AKINLABI OYETUNJI

Engr. Prof. Akinlabi OYETUNJI hails from Ikire, Osun State, Nigeria. He completed his primary education at A.D.C Primary School Ikire, Osun State in 1978. Thereafter, he proceeded to Ayedaade Grammar School, Ikire, Osun State for his Senior School Leaving Certificate in 1984. In 1986, he gained admission to Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State to study a Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. His quest for a postgraduate degree led him to the University of Lagos, where he bagged an MSc in Mechanical Engineering in 1995. He earned his Ph.D. from the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) in 2007, specializing in Production Metallurgy.

Prof. Oyetunji started his teaching and research career as Lecturer III at the Department of Foundry Engineering Technology, The Federal Polytechnic, Idah, Kogi State in 1994. Thereafter, he was appointed as an Assistant Lecturer, at the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Federal University of Technology, Akure, Nigeria in 1997. Over the years, he rose through the academic ranks and became a Professor of Production Metallurgy in 2018. He has successfully supervised over 14 master’s degree, five Ph.D. and several undergraduate students, as a major supervisor. He was a Visiting Senior Lecturer, University of Namibia, Department of Mining and Metallurgical Engineering from 2011 to 2016.

Prof. Oyetunji is a registered Engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and a corporate member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE). Prof. Oyetunji has published widely in both local and international peer-reviewed journals and has more than 80 publications as at December 2019 that spanned across all the areas of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. He has also served as a reviewer for several domestic and international journals, including FUTA Journal of Engineering and International Journal of Modelling and Simulation, Botswana. Prof Oyetunji areas of research interests are Production Metallurgy with bias in Foundry Technology and Materials Characterization and Modelling/Simulation of Materials Processing and Properties.

He has served on various University’s Committees both as a member and a chairman. A few of such committees included School of Postgraduate Board of Studies, Examinations and Records Committee, Business Committee of the School of Postgraduate Board of Studies, School Transport Committee, Departmental Field Trip/SIWES Committee, and Departmental Postgraduate Seminar Coordinator. He is currently Head, Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, FUTA.

Other than teaching and research, he has served as a resource person to Commonwealth Scholarship Board, Federal Scholarship Board Abuja, Nigeria and member, Accreditations Team/Resource Person to National Universities Commission, Abuja and National Board of Technical Education (NBTE), Kaduna. He has served as external examiner to Undergraduate students and Masters’ degree oral examination at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Kwara State University, Malete and Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife Osun State respectively. He has also served as an external examiner for Ph.D. oral examinations at Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, University of Lagos and Department Materials Science and Engineering, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife Osun State, Nigeria. He equally served as External Assessors to Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti and Federal Polytechnic Idah Kogi State in assessing the promotion of their staff to Principal Lecturership and Chief Lecturership positions. He has also provided consultancy services to Sunatech International Limited, Port Harcourt and Metallurgical Complex Nigeria Limited, Aba and Umuahia, Abia State, Nigeria.
